Big changes have taken place at Nick Miles Building Contractors Ltd.

Nick has now moved on to pastures green.

Having recently completed a Building Surveying degree and halfway through a Masters degree in the Conservation of Historic Buildings at the University of Bath, Nick along with John Ward, himself a RICS Building Surveyor and SPAB Lethaby Scholar, have established a new company called Miles Ward and Associates Ltd.

Primarily, the aim is to offer a service whereby owners of historic or period buildings can access informed and appropriate advice on how to deal with their property. This will include complete building surveys, building appraisals (particularly useful at pre-purchase or pre-acquisition stage), submission of Listed Building Consent applications, project management, providing advice on the use of traditional materials (such as lime etc.) and the investigation and diagnosis of defects (including the use of environmental monitoring, laboratory testing etc.).

Nick says: ‘Having run my own small conservation building contracting company for the last 15 years, and having recently embarked on the route to professional qualification as a RICS Building Surveyor, this opportunity allows me to pursue the career I have been planning for the last three or four years . . . I feel strongly that far too often inappropriate survey recommendations or specifications result in damage being done to our historic buildings and if I can help disseminate correct and appropriate advice, even on a very small scale, it will be well worth the effort.
